Descrizione
Hidden away within the majestic hall of the former Convent of San Francesco, dating back to the 14th century, lies a unique treasure: the Vintage Radio Museum.
Frequencies of the Past
This museum, the second of its kind in Italy, was founded thanks to the passion and generosity of Carlo Chiuselli, a collector who has devoted years to gathering and restoring over 100 radio sets.
These technological gems, hailing from Italy, Germany, England, France and the United States, span a period from the 1920s to the 1960s.
Each piece in the collection represents a chapter in the history of radio, a medium that profoundly shaped the 20th century. The exhibition is a journey through time, where visitors can admire sets that transmitted the very first radio communications, heralding the era of global radio communications.
Conservation restoration, combined with in-depth research and study, has made it possible to bring these radios back to life, reviving them not only as exhibits but as functioning devices, capable of tuning into the frequencies of the past. Each radio, with its shape, materials and design, tells the story not only of technological evolution but also of the social and cultural developments of the 20th century.
From the earliest radios – simple wooden boxes or caskets containing the essential valves – to the more elaborate models of the 1960s, each device is a window onto an era. The collection also includes a wide range of accessories: loudspeakers, headphones, microphones and valves, as well as a wealth of documentary material comprising photographs, technical bulletins, advertising posters, books and original specialist magazines.
