Descrizione

The Albani Museum in Urbino, located in the evocative Archbishop’s Palace in the Marche, represents an authentic treasure trove of artistic treasures founded back in 1783 by the cardinal of the same name. This cultural institution contains a vast and precious collection of works of art ranging from the Renaissance to the Baroque.

The architecture of the Archbishop’s Palace, dating back to the sixteenth century and renovated in the eighteenth century specifically to house the museum, provides a striking backdrop for the works on display.

The history of the museum is intertwined with that of the city itself, as it was born from the generosity of Cardinal Albani who donated his collection to the community of Urbino. During the nineteenth century, this collection was further enriched with acquisitions by private individuals and the Italian State, giving the museum an even richer and more diversified heritage.

The Museum’s collection is organized into several sections, each offering an in-depth look at an era or artistic genre. From the works of Renaissance masters such as Raphael Sanzio and Pietro della Francesca, to sculptures by Italian and foreign artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Antonio Canova, to sumptuous Flemish and Italian tapestries and ceramics that tell centuries of artistic and artisan history.

Recently restored, the Albani Museum has reopened its doors to the public, offering an immersive and cultural experience that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the art and history of the Archdiocese of Urbino-Urbania-Sant’Angelo in Vado. In addition, the permanent exhibition of contemporary art curated by the Urbino Art Association inside the palace adds an extra layer of artistic diversity and vitality to the museum’s already rich offering.

Through the works on display, the Museum offers a fascinating journey through time and space, allowing visitors to explore and fully understand the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Urbino and Marche.
