Descrizione
The Brancaleoni Civic Museum, founded in 1983 and situated in Piobbico, is an important cultural institution dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the region’s historical and artistic heritage. Named after Monsignor Domenico Rinaldini, the museum has been enriched by a generous donation of his fossil collection.
The museum’s collections are incredibly diverse and offer an in-depth insight into the natural and cultural history of the area. The geo-paeontological section features over ten thousand fossils from the Monte Nerone Massif, dating from a period ranging from 2 million to 200 million years ago. The archaeological section displays Bronze Age, Gallic and Roman artefacts unearthed in the vicinity of Piobbico, whilst the numismatic section offers a collection of coins and medals from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era.
In addition, the museum features a section dedicated to the region’s traditional crafts, customs and way of life, showcasing tools and implements used by the inhabitants of Piobbico in the past. A further section is dedicated to the noble Brancaleoni family, displaying garments and jewellery belonging to the family.
Owned by the Municipality of Piobbico and managed by a cultural services co-operative, the Brancaleoni Civic Museum has recently undergone restoration and technological upgrades to offer visitors a modern and engaging museum experience. Housed within the picturesque Brancaleoni Castle, the museum offers a fascinating journey into the past, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the life and traditions of previous generations.
