Descrizione

Each village in Colli al Metauro retains its own identity and distinctive features, yet together they form a cohesive cluster of historic villages, built in accordance with an architectural style that brought political, religious and economic power into close proximity.

Steep flights of steps serve as the gateway to the centre of each village, a prelude and showcase of what lies ahead.

The famous Saltara staircases – long and criss-crossing – climb the sloping walls from Piazza Garibaldi, leading into the covered market, a unique national landmark illuminated by the light streaming in through the large windows.

In summer, these staircases provide a prime vantage point from which to enjoy the music of the bands performing for Saltarua, an event that attracts artists of great renown.
