Descrizione

The importance Cantiano acquired following the construction of the Via Flaminia in 220 BC – of which it was a key junction – is further and spectacularly evidenced by the Pontericcioli Archaeological Site. Imposing stone colossi rise up in an area that has remained untouched by human intrusion.

We can stroll freely, accompanied by the chirping of a magpie or the slow rumination of a few grazing animals, and admire an enormous retaining wall made of ‘pietra grigna’ – a typical local grey rock formation – the Ponte Grosso, the three-arched bridge and the remains of the Ponte Voragine, which transport us back to the architectural splendour of ancient Rome.
