Descrizione
The Church of St. Francis, an important testimony of faith and history in the center of Mondavio, has its roots in the thirteenth century, when it was founded at the behest of St. Francis of Assisi. Over the centuries, the church has undergone various transformations: it was enlarged and renovated in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries to adapt to the needs of the local religious community.
In 1789, an earthquake severely damaged the structure, but thanks to the efforts of the faithful and experts, the church was restored in the nineteenth century, preserving its splendor and importance in the urban fabric.
From an architectural point of view, the Church of San Francesco presents itself as a fine example of the Gothic style, with an imposing façade made of sandstone. Inside, you can admire a single nave with a polygonal apse, which creates an evocative and sacred atmosphere.
