A typical middle-class residence from the first half of the 20th century
Before leaving Fossombrone, a visit to the Cesarini House Museum and Picture Gallery – named after the notary who lived in the building – is a must.
Here, visitors can not only gain a glimpse into the intimate life of a typical middle-class residence from the first half of the 20th century, but also admire the works of the Fossombrone-born artist Anselmo Bucci, of whom the notary was a great admirer; his flair and creativity can be seen in every room of the building.
Of particular note is the painter’s self-portrait, in which he depicts himself as a painter and decorator at work, as if art were above all a craft, as well as an intellectual endeavour, and the marvellous inner courtyard of the villa, carved out of the rock, almost forming a single structure with the rocky face that looms behind the building.
