Descrizione

Fano marked the terminus in the Adriatic region of the great Via Flaminia, which led into the historic centre and connected directly with the Decumanus Maximus via the Arch of Augustus, now a symbol of the city. Commissioned by the Emperor in 9 AD as a gateway – a role it still fulfils today in all its grandeur – the Via Flaminia Museum has been established adjacent to it. Using digital and virtual displays, the museum offers visitors the opportunity to explore the city’s Roman heritage and that of the entire territory along the ancient Via Flaminia. Stretching out from the Arch are the imposing city walls, which also feature the Porta della Mandria, a secondary gateway built to improve the flow of urban traffic.
